Scottsburg wins state championship!

The Scottsburg Warriors boys’ basketball team won the 2024 Indiana Class 3A state championship on March 30 to claim the first state crown in school history. The Warriors defeated South Bend Saint Joseph, 67-57, in the final held at Gainsbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

A huge crowd of supporters from Scottsburg traveled to the state capital for the game and were credited by Warriors senior Kody Clancy for their loud cheering during the game. Senior Jack Miller led Scottsburg with 32 points, including three 3-pointers, while adding four rebounds.

Scottsburg, led by coach Eric Richardson, finished the season 25-5.

Jack Miller was also selected to the Indiana High School Basketball All-Stars team that will play the Kentucky All-Stars in June. Only two Warriors have previously been named to the All-Star team: Vern Altemeyer (Class of 1956) and Bill James (Class of 1969).

On the same day, Brownstown Central also won its first boys’ basketball state championship, defeating Wapahani, 55-36, in the Class 2A final. (Jack Benter of Brownstown was also selected to the All-Stars.) Two teams from the area winning their first state title on the same day… outstanding work from both southern Indiana teams!

Thanks to Larry Weir for the heads-up on the Warriors’ great season!
